Tunkás is a Municipality of 3464 inhabitants, placed in the State of Yucatán, with a fertility rate of 3.08 children per woman. 2.48% of the population migrated from outside the State of Yucatán. 83.86% of the population is indigenous, 52.07% of the inhabitants speak one indigenous language, and 0.85% speak that indigenous language, but not Spanish.

62.12% of the inhabitants of Tunkás are Catholic, 43.27% are economically active and, within this active population, 98.12% are employed. Additionally, 94.74% of the dwellings have piped water and 1.79% have Internet access.
