The town of El Pez Vela belongs to the municipality of Benito Juárez (State of Guerrero). It is the most populated town in the position #47 of the whole municipality.

The locality was formerly known as Playa San Jerónimo, but changed its name a few years ago. The inhabitants of this community decided to change its name in 2011.
