The town of San José (Chiapas) belongs to the municipality of Pijijiapan. In the list of the most populated towns of the whole municipality, it is the number #239 of the ranking.

The locality was formerly known as La Curva, but changed its name a few years ago. In the year 2019, this location joined Polmorona. In the year 2013, the locality changed its name.
