The town of Zapote de Cestau belongs to the municipality of Pénjamo (State of Guanajuato). There are 1,026 inhabitants and it is 1,814 meters altitude. Of all the towns in the municipality, it occupies the number #13 in terms of number of inhabitants.

The locality was formerly known as Zapote de Cestao, but changed its name a few years ago. The inhabitants of this community decided to change its name in 2010.
