The town of Rancho Sonora belongs to the municipality of Hermosillo (State of Sonora). There are 72 inhabitants and it is 361 meters altitude. In the list of the most populated towns of the whole municipality, it is the number #65 of the ranking.

The locality was formerly known as Viñedo Rancho Sonora, but changed its name a few years ago. The Mexican census of 2020 decided to declare this community as uninhabited.
