The town of La Mesa (Hidalgo) belongs to the municipality of San Bartolo Tutotepec. There are 70 inhabitants and it is 1,601 meters altitude. The Magical Town of Pahuatlán is 27 minutes away by car (22 km). Of all the towns in the municipality, it occupies the number #71 in terms of number of inhabitants.

The locality was formerly known as Santiago el Viejo, but changed its name a few years ago. This town decided to change its name in the year 2012.
