The town of San Mateo Alcalá belongs to the municipality of Temoaya (State of Estado de México). There are 413 inhabitants and it is 2,583 meters altitude. The Magical Town of Metepec is 57 minutes away by car (40 km). In the list of the most populated towns of the whole municipality, it is the number #50 of the ranking.

The locality was formerly known as Ejido de San Mateo Alcalá, but changed its name a few years ago. The inhabitants of this community decided to change its name in 2010.
