It was formerly known as San José Tequixpalco.

The town of San José Tequexpalco belongs to the municipality of Coxcatlán (State of Puebla). The Magical Town of Huautla de Jiménez is 60 minutes away by car (49 km). It is the most populated town in the position #42 of the whole municipality.

The locality was formerly known as San José Tequixpalco, but changed its name a few years ago. The inhabitants of this community decided to change its name in 2013.
