The town of Rancho San José Huereje belongs to the municipality of Ixtlahuaca (State of Estado de México). There are 106 inhabitants and it is 2,531 meters altitude. The Magical Town of Villa del carbón is 35 minutes away by car (35 km). Of all the towns in the municipality, it occupies the number #61 in terms of number of inhabitants.

The locality was formerly known as Huereje, but changed its name a few years ago. The inhabitants of this community decided to change its name in 2010.
