The town of Don Mayito belongs to the municipality of Othón P. Blanco (State of Quintana Roo). The Magical Town of Bacalar is 38 minutes away by car (29 km). It is the most populated town in the position #599 of the whole municipality.

The locality was formerly known as Rancho Oxtanka, but changed its name a few years ago. The inhabitants of this community decided to change its name in 2016.
