The guitar model which can be seen in the animated film Coco is produced in the Mexican town of Paracho, Michoacán, where the success generated after the last Pixar film is experienced. Paracho is known as the Guitar Capital of the World, and some 400 luthiers work in the area.
The truth is that the guitar of 'Coco' exists in real life and was designed by a Mexican luthier, Germán Vázquez Rubio, who was born in Paracho and was chosen by Disney Pixar to design the guitar with which Miguel, the protagonist of the film' Coco', wants to fulfil his dreams. Germán has been living in Los Angeles, California for 30 years, and the design of 'Coco' guitar took him 9 months of research and 6 months of manufacturing. The release of the film and its subsequent box-office success made that many guitar enthusiasts want to own an instrument similar to that used by Miguel, which led to an increase in the number of visitors in the small Mexican town.
