The town of Nuevo Progreso (Chiapas) belongs to the municipality of Altamirano. There are 204 inhabitants and it is 1,005 meters altitude. It is the most populated town in the position #34 of the whole municipality.

This town has recently changed its name. It used to be known as El Porvenir. The inhabitants of this community decided to change its name in 2010.
