Its former name was Hacienda las Peñas.

The town of Las Peñas belongs to the municipality of Petatlán (State of Guerrero). There are 12 inhabitants and it is 18 meters altitude. It's a beach town: the beach of Playa Blanca (Los Farallones) is 22 km away. The Magical Town of Zihuatanejo is 49 minutes away by car (39 km). Of all the towns in the municipality, it occupies the number #181 in terms of number of inhabitants.

The locality was formerly known as Hacienda las Peñas, but changed its name a few years ago. The inhabitants of this community decided to change its name in 2010.
