The town of GAFERSA belongs to the municipality of Empalme (State of Sonora). Of all the towns in the municipality, it occupies the number #67 in terms of number of inhabitants.

This town has recently changed its name. It used to be known as GAFERSA (Gases y Fertilizantes S.A.). The Mexican authorities declared this village as uninhabited in 2020.
