The town of El Refugio (Nuevo León) belongs to the municipality of Montemorelos. There are 21 inhabitants and it is 481 meters altitude. The Magical Town of General Terán is 50 minutes away by car (38 km). Of all the towns in the municipality, it occupies the number #145 in terms of number of inhabitants.
The locality was formerly known as El Tunal, but changed its name a few years ago. The inhabitants of this community decided to change its name in 2014.
