The town of Maranata belongs to the municipality of Cintalapa (State of Chiapas). There are 3 inhabitants and it is 590 meters altitude. Of all the towns in the municipality, it occupies the number #517 in terms of number of inhabitants.

The locality was formerly known as Copalatenco, but changed its name a few years ago. The inhabitants of this community decided to change its name in 2019.
