The town of Cuautenco belongs to the municipality of Acaxochitlán (State of Hidalgo). The Magical Town of Acaxochitlán is 11 minutes away by car (9 km). In the list of the most populated towns of the whole municipality, it is the number #51 of the ranking.

The locality was formerly known as Barrio Cuautenco, but changed its name a few years ago. The inhabitants of this community decided to change its name in 2020.
