The town of El Naranjo belongs to the municipality of Pantepec (State of Chiapas). The Magical Town of Copainalá is 48 minutes away by car (33 km). It is the most populated town in the position #22 of the whole municipality.

The locality was formerly known as Altamira (El Zacatal), but changed its name a few years ago. The inhabitants of this community decided to change its name in 2015.
