The town of Acontla belongs to the municipality of Chiautla (State of Puebla). It is the most populated town in the position #47 of the whole municipality.

The locality was formerly known as Acontla (Los Oropeza), but changed its name a few years ago. The Mexican authorities declared this village as uninhabited in 2020.
