The place of Chimalaca is inside the municipality of Tepetlixpa (in the State of México). There are 27 inhabitants. Of all the towns in the municipality, it occupies the number #19 in terms of number of inhabitants. Chimalaca is at 2,289 meters of altitude.

The locality was formerly known as Mercedes, but changed its name a few years ago. In the year 2010, the locality changed its name.
