Where is Baja California Sur? It is located to the south of the California peninsula. Although in this same peninsula there is another Mexican state called "Baja California", this one is completely different and independent. At the end of the 19th century, during his third term in office, Mexican President Porfirio Diaz divided the peninsula into two "districts": the north and the south. Over the following decades, the "districts" became known as "territories". Finally, in the 1970s, they were designated as free and sovereign "states".

Like the entire northern Pacific area of the country, the State of Baja California Sur is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Mexico, due to its proximity to the United States. Its beaches and ecotourism are the main attractions. Fishing and agriculture also help the economic progress of the State, supplying different types of fish and seafood (such as lobsters and clams) to Japan and the United States, thanks to the excellent quality of its waters. Within the agriculture, its important plantations of maize or beans stand out, as well as vegetables and fodder. In addition, in Baja California Sur we can find extensive salt and copper deposits, such as the El Boleo Mining Project.

If you visit Baja California Sur, don't hesitate to visit the Magical Towns of Loreto and Todos los Santos. In the first one you can enjoy contemplating the famous Mission of Nuestra Señora de Loreto, watch whales in El Carmen Island, or stroll through its historic center. Todos los Santos is famous for its Mission and Guaycura Beach Club, and you can visit Punta Lobos, an isolated coastal area with large boulders, where thousands of people come to surf (due to its strong waves) and enjoy fishing.
